Welcome back to the Flowering Jungle! It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already. When I first started, I wanted a place to share news and updates that weren’t in short format like social media, someplace we could build more of a community. I heard from so many of you on my fall tour about how much you love the newsletter and I want to say thank you for making the Flowering Jungle happen. Thanks for taking the time to read and engage and give me feedback and thank you especially to my paid subscribers for supporting my work. I couldn’t do this without you. I’m looking forward to another year!
On that note, I’d love to hear from even more of you! Leave a comment if you’re a paid subscriber or just respond to this email. Can’t wait to hear from you!
New Show with Kainalu
I’m psyched to announce that I’ll be back in Chicago on April 12th joining my man, Kainalu for a show at Lincoln Hall. Tickets are up for sale today. Grab one if you’re in the area. We expect the show to sell out so don’t wait!
Updates from the MR Studio
Since getting back from tour in the fall, my main focus in the studio has been to create new music. I was having trouble getting into the groove, so I took a trip out to Denver to visit my buddy, John of RUMTUM fame.
John’s studio in Denver.
I’m psyched to share a little more of what I’ve been working on in the next newsletter, so keep an eye out for a video next time. In the meantime, I’m back in my own studio working.
I’m also lining up a few more show dates for 2024 which I’ll announce on my Instagram, so keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
After three years in our current house, Kelley and I are finally trying to get some artwork up on the walls, so I’ve been digging through my archives and framing up old pieces. Along the way I’ve come across a ton of work I did in college and the years after that I thought would be cool to share. It’s interesting to see what has changed and makes me think about what it will look like in 14 more years. Take a look and comment with your favorite below.
^ three pieces I did in collaboration with The Family Acid, each one was inspired by either mushrooms, marijuana or LSD. Fun Fact: these were the wallpaper of some rooms in the Standard Hotel in Hollywood, before it closed.
^ I made this screenprint in 2011 and recently pulled it out to let my daughters color in the birds. If you look close you can see where they wrote “I want a puppy for christmas”.
^ This is a screenprint I made around the time I created the collage artwork for the Coral LP. I was trying to remake some of the collage in this form.
^ This etching was the original concept for the artwork that ended up being the cover art for the Deep Sea EP.
^ This was made for a shirt design for Wax Thematique, I’m not sure if it was ever printed.
^ I used to draw a picture of my dog Oscar on the bottom of all my set lists. He was a funky Lhasa Apso with a big underbite, miss him.
2023 and Beyond Playlist
Finally, I wanted to share a complication I put together of all the playlists I’ve made for paid subscribers in the last year. Every month I work hard on sharing new and interesting music I’ve been rotating and I’m psyched to get to share it with you all. Take a listen and consider subscribing to get my curated playlist every month.
Thanks to everyone for reading this far. If you’re a paid subscriber keep scrolling for this months playlist and wallpaper (one of my favorites, inspired by a vintage car ad). See you next month in the Flowering Jungle!
